Powered by technology and data from VisualDx, Ask Aysa provides real-time guidance for common skin conditions

Designed to be an everyday skin symptom checker, Ask Aysa is an AI-powered mobile app that provides personalized guidance on common skin conditions using just a photo from a smart phone. Simply share with Aysa and it will analyze and offer helpful information that you can discuss further with a healthcare professional. Though Aysa doesn't provide medical diagnoses, it empowers users with reliable insights to better understand their skin health, especially for immediate needs.

The Problem

Can a virtual dermatologist in your pocket inform and direct you to an appropriate outcome?

The goal with Ask Aysa was to provide a very simple solution to gain insight on common skin issues and provide users available next steps. That might include additional research, finding medical products that can help, or starting a telemedicine session with a healthcare professional.

The Aysa experience starts with a photo and ends with potential conditions

With limited resources, I worked through user flows to get folks from photo to results as seamlessly as possible. Take a picture or upload one, answer some questions and review the summary, then see your results and take action. Aysa's job was to provide an assessment and recommendation to bring to a medical professional, not a diagnosis, and thus my intention was to keep the messaging and interface competent yet casual.

The Outcome

Empowered users gained peace of mind about their skin health and VisualDx gained an elevated reputation

For the client, the Ask Aysa app wasn't about creating a paid service to replace your dermatologist. Their objective was to put their vast collection of healthcare data to use for good while cross-promoting the VisualDx brand.

The marketing team at VisualDx went to work for launch and garnered over a thousand app downloads on both the iOS and Android stores in the first week of availability. Meanwhile, I led the team at Flynn on designing, building, and launching a marketing website for Aysa in tandem.

Bolstering the Aysa brand style guide

While we did start with some overall guidelines for what the Aysa brand was and how it spoke to people, there were additional pieces needed throughout the process. By the end of the project I had contributed not only UX guidance but also a collection of components for use in-app and marketing efforts such as iconography, splash screens, and ad content.

As the Lead Product Designer directing and creating assets for Ask Aysa, I was able to:

Add value to the Ask Aysa brand by creating a more complete set of guidelines and style components for future use

Simplify the user experience down to only what users needed and nothing more

Reach over 1000 app downloads in our first week in the iOS & Android stores

Successfully bring awareness to the VisualDx parent company and help them reach a larger audience
